A path to peace, or a roadmap to perpetual apartheid?

16 March 2020

On January 28, 2020, President Donald Trump revealed his “deal of the Century” in a document titled: Peace to Prosperity: A vision to Improve the Lives of the Palestinian and Israeli people. The Prime Minister of Israel who joined the President at the podium was elated, and almost immediately declared his intention to annex the Jordan Valley and Jewish settlements that were established in East Jerusalem and the Occupied West Bank in contravention of international law. The Palestinian leadership rejected it outright. Many commentators called it “Trump’s apartheid plan” or Bantustan plan.

This side-event will address the proposed ‘deal’ from the perspective of Palestinian rights, International Humanitarian Law, and International Human Right Law. It will deconstruct and reveal the dehumanizing and unlawful aspects of the “deal”, including its serious ramifications not only on Palestinian lives and rights, and also on the global order, and international peace and security.
