Urgent Condemnation and Appeal to the International and Humanitarian Community

Urgent Statement of Condemnation and Appeal to the International and Humanitarian Community

Regarding the Massacres and Violations in the Syrian Coast on March 6-7, 2025, and Their Ongoing Continuation Until the Date of This Statement

To:

  • The United Nations HCHR
  • The United Nations Security Council
  • The European Union
  • The League of Arab States
  • All Free People of the World and Human Rights Organizations

A Human Greeting Filled with Pain and Hope

We, a group of legal professionals, human rights activists, and international organizations, address, through this urgent appeal in light of the horrifying escalation of violence and armed conflict in the Syrian coast and other areas. The recent clashes between the armed factions of the Coastal Council and the Military Operations Administration over the past hours have resulted in human tragedies that no conscience can remain silent about.

On behalf of ourselves and all those who believe in human rights and humanity, we strongly condemn the brutal massacres committed against unarmed civilians. We denounce the deliberate targeting of women and children and the terrorizing of residents through indiscriminate gunfire in residential areas, in blatant violation of all international and humanitarian laws and norms. These atrocities have taken place in several towns and villages across the Syrian coast.

The de facto authority in Damascus, through its military and security forces, along with affiliated foreign terrorist factions and fighters, bears full responsibility for the extrajudicial killings, forced displacements, property theft, and systematic terrorization of civilians in the Syrian coast. These crimes amount to ethnic cleansing and genocide.

Furthermore, the ongoing interference of foreign states in Syrian affairs and the global and Arab silence in face of these widespread and systematic crimes and violations against the Syrian p eople make this an international moral failure.

Therefore, We Demand the Following:

  1. The international community and human rights organizations must exert pressure on all parties involved in the conflict to immediately cease all ongoing hostilities without conditions, in order to safeguard civilian lives and social peace.
  2. The immediate withdrawal of all military forces affiliated with the de facto authority from all cities and villages in the Syrian coast, along with the expulsion of all affiliated foreign extremist fighters.
  3. The deployment of an independent international commission to investigate the ongoing violations, document crimes against humanity, and submit a comprehensive and transparent report to the UN Security Council.
  4. The prosecution of all individuals responsible for the massacres and human rights violations committed against civilians, ensuring their accountability before international courts and justice systems.
  5. The international humanitarian organizations must take their responsibility for providing urgent humanitarian and medical aid to all affected civilians, lifting blockades, opening safe corridors for the evacuation of the wounded and deceased, and ensuring psychological and medical support for children and women.
  6. An immediate end to all forms of sectarian incitement and systematic calls for hate and violence, whether through social media or traditional media channels, and the prosecution of all perpetrators of hate crimes, whether inside or outside Syrian territory.
  7. Human rights and international organizations must mobilize their efforts to launch a global advocacy campaign via social media to raise awareness about these atrocities and bring the issue to international public attention.
  8. The cessation of all forms of foreign intervention in Syria, the halting of military and financial support to warring factions, and an end to all external provocations that fuel the conflict.

The suffering of the Syrian coast today is a stain on the conscience of humanity. The international community must act swiftly and decisively to save innocent lives. The voices of the victims cry out for justice, and the souls of the innocent children lost in this conflict plead with you to stand for truth, justice, and human dignity.
